The Video Crew
The Video Crew project returns in March 2024

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Video Crew is a workplace development and career exploration initiative for African American males, ages 15-18. This initiative is designed to engage students in the innovative and expanding field of video editing and video production.

This virtual arts training series, via Zoom classes) will introduce students to a process that merges 21st century technology and creativity.

The young men will gain knowledge and skills that prepares them for entry level jobs, potential for long-term careers, entrepreneurial opportunities, and advanced education in the industry.

Project Activities
Working with industry professionals that includes the following:
• In-class instruction/demonstrations/Q&A.
• Independent study/homework assignments.
• Use of video editing software and study guides (Textbook & Workbook).
• Teamwork building skills acquired through group projects.
• Tours of broadcasting studios in Detroit and lunch at Downtown Detroit restaurants.

This series consists of 10 weeks of in-class study/training along with assignments that require 2-4 hours of outside work to ensure participants become proficient in video editing and production. Eight students will be selected through an application/interview process. The students will create a final project that incorporates the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course. The final project can be submitted into local and national competitions.
